The object
The selected silver screen uses 316 stainless steel and a 150-micron mesh. It sits between the prepared puck and shower screen to spread incoming water and help keep coffee residue away from the group head.
At 1.7 millimeters thick, it occupies some basket headspace, so a tightly filled basket may need a slightly lower dose. The screen needs rinsing after shots and periodic detergent soaking because fines and oils collect inside the mesh.
